the other party involved. The amount of de

tary of State, or to send in a release will result
in the suspension of both the owner and driver
until the foregoing provisions are fulfilled. In
addition a reciprocity provision has been added
which provides the same requirements and
penalties when Oregon motorists are involved
m accidents in other states having similar fin
ancial responsibility iaws. Other changes are
that it will now he necessary lor the un-insured
motorist to post a maximum of $2,000 for
property damage security instead of J 1,000
under the old law. In addition the require
ments under future proots, which have here
tofore been 5 10 bodily injury and Si,000 prop
erty damage have been changed to 3 10-5 to
conform with .ill insurance policies. The pur
pose of the law is to increase the jx:rcentage
of responsible motorists on the highways and
to that degree lessen the pressure from the un
compensated victims of irresponsible drivers.
The Secretary of State, through the Financial
Responsibility Department, is prepared to use
the full capacity of his office, through new
forms ami procedures to constantly acquaint
all licensed motorists with the provisions and
penalties of the new law. If you are not prop
erly insured or if you are not in a position
financially to meet the requirements of the
new law, for your own protection see your
