Initiates Pledges Three new pledges were in itiat ed into the Beta Io ta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Tuesday evening M av 17. Dorothy Lewis. Barbara Pollard and M ay Salisbury be came the newest members of the soroity's .Brookings chapter, In a formal ceremony at the home o f Mrs. Alice Putnam, Beta Iota's sponsor. Following the candlelight ritual, refreshments were sersed, and, as n special surprise from Mrs. P ut nam, color and black-and-white photographs of the group were taken of the group by Frenehie Arrell. The icst of the ewning was devoted to a musical?.-with M r*. Putnam and B arbaralPollaid playing duets on the organ and piano. COOS - CURRY DIRECTORY Upper ChetCO School 1 Has Railroad Trip The pupils of the Upper Chetco school celebrated the last day of school Friday In a big way. Leav ing about four in the morning, they drove to Grants Pass in time to travel on the 7:12 train from that city to Ashland, th«» first train trip for many of the children. They were met at the station there by the ones who drove from Grants Pass and taken through Lithia Park to the zoo." It was there that Miarilyn Thort-* on almost lost some hair to a monkey who reached through the mesh in th? cage and took a good solid hold and pulled. They alap tried the Lithia W ater, but most of them didn’t drink much of the famous brew. From Ashland they drove to Greybaek Camp-out,of Cave Junc tion where they had lunch before going through the Oregon Caves, and from there home, tired but contented w ith a perfect day. The group was headed by the two teachers of the Upper Chet co School, Herseeli Cheney and M rs Ester Waldien, both of whom have signed contracts to teach then? again next year.
