U sing th e photoes, in ten sity of ground ex am ination can be reduced by as m uch as 50 id 60 percen t w ith the sam e accuracy of results. The photos a r e n ’t likelv to ever replace ground crew s en tire ly be cause such specific d etails as log grades, d efects and percen t of volum e by species in m ixed coniferous stan d s m u st com e from on - th e - s p o t ob servations and m easu rem en ts. B ut the photos will be used fa r m o re extensively in the fu tu re and fo r m ore p u r poses. A sec tion of the 133-page bulletin is devoted to descriptions of m in e ra l-te stin g eq u ip m en t and basic prospecting tools. S ev eral radio active m in erals have been in cluded for the first tim e as well as o th e r m inerals w hich have be com e im p o rtan t in recent years. The b u lletin is an elem e n ta ry re f erence book and the m ore easily understood physical te s ts a re stressed ra th e r th an chem ical tests.
