the big tim b e r states.
Only 792 fo rest fires occurred
during the 1953 fire season. L ig h t
ning s ta rte d 423 and 369 w ere
m an-caused and could have been
prevented. P ercentage-w ise, only
447 per cent of th e blazes w ere
m an-caused, an o u tsta n d ng im
provem ent over previous y ea rs
and well below th e national a v e r
age of n early 90 p er cent.
