U nder a ruling handed dowm by ho s ta te a tto rn e y general, the secretary of s ta te ’s office says hey are p ro h 'b ited from m aking m y special census for cities vhich have had them since 1950. ’rookings had one a t th e tim e of ncorporation, in 1951. T ’’ c nsus had been req u ested by th e city to re e v a lu a te the base >n which they receive funds from the s ta te agencies. No one has yet offered to p ro vide q u a rte rs for a new p o st office in Brookings, according to P o stal In spector M elvin N o rth rip of S e attle. T he Post Office D e p artm en t has adv ertised locally for a new lo catio n for the post office, w hich has o u tgrow n its p resen t q u a rte rs. A m inim um of at least 1800 feet are required in the new location. P a rtic u la rs on th e req u irem en ts for the building cap be obtained at th e post-office locally. T h e re quest for bids closes O cto b er 30.
