T aggart, who has been tra n sfe r red to the D epartm ent’s home and farm loan div sion The educational aid program which he heads has paid out state bt'nefits to 6,352 veterans of World W ar II and Korea. There is no deadline for using the bene fit, which pays $50 a month to qualified w ar veterans studying full time as college undergradu ates, or $35 a month m aximum for other classroom studies in accredited private and public schools, vocational, business and technical institutions, and the like. To qualify, a veteran must have been an Oregon resident for at least one year im m ediately prior to his seFvice in World Wat II or Korea. He may draw benefii.8 for as many m onths as he spent on active duty, provided he served for six m onths or more during the w ar periods. He is limited to 36 i m onths of benefits. V eterans of service since June 25, 1930, m ust have earned the Korean service medal to qualify. V eterans m ay apply through their local coun ty service officers, or in the P o rt land or Salem offices of the sta te v eterans’ departm ent.
