6 Brookings I larbor Pilot ELLSWORTH PRESIDES THURSDAY, MAY 28. 1953 SUN STUDIES INSPIRE LOVE By Hugh J. P ru e tt Many of the greatest blessings to which the hum an race is heir »«‘‘•ms so common to us that we sim ply take them for granted and never feel a sense of gratitude or even trhink alx»ut them. Hut should we deprive of them our condition would bi* woeful. Life on our earth would net lx- possible without the light and heat of the sun Should this flow of energy across interplanetary space suddenly cease, our terro r would surely be eaqual to th at deplicted in Lord Byron’s tragic poem “P alkness." Th< p o e tt’s dream had "palces of I h crow ned kings, the huts . .. burnt for bvm'omt . . When everything was consumed, “all was black.*’ Even “w ar w as no more." The worsip of prim itive man hum bly bowing bofore the glory of the rising sun can hardly seem a useles form of praise. W e sstill have our all-powerful tu n , and surely it cannot be ex trem ely sinful to accord to it a certain degree of adoration. ■ " > • A peculiar experience came to ta this w riter a few years ago.
