County High School Eagles Trooa Hold Players Leave For Tourney Won By Court Of Honor H. S. Basketball Eagles Troop 222. Boy Scouts Brookings Bruins of America, held a court of honor Dist. Tournament Brookings won the county high school basketball tournam ent held at Gold Reach Thursday through S aturday. This is the sixth year they have captured the title under the guidance of Coach G uthrie. On Friday evening the Rruins played Gold Beach in a close game leading only in the last qu arter. The final score was 51 to 46. S atu rd ay evening B IT S , scor ing 28 points in the first q u a rte r went on to defeat Port Orford for the C urry county champion ship, 72 to 62. The score at the half was 41 to 22. P ort Orford s ta rte d w ith a rush at the beginning of the second half and by the end of the third w ere trailing Brookings, 53 to 44 The last q u a rte r was nip and tuck with first one team and then the o th er scoring points. Although trying hard the P o rt Orford never quite caught the title-bound B ruins of Brookings. Boyd and Ray W esteren paced the Brookings scoring w ith 20 and 17 jxiints while P ort Orford high score men were Flake and Penrl, both w ith 20 points. The th ree W estern brothers Ray, Ron and Boyd, w ere select ed on the first all-county team. ---------------------- Along Azalea Row The M arch m eeting of the Azalea Garden Club will be held at the Grange hall on Thursday, M arch 12 at 2:00 p.m. D essert luncheon will be served at 1.00 p.m. by Mrs. E. E. Hanscam , chairm an; M esdames Louis E. P e terson, A rth u r Payne and O tto Turley. A program of music will be given by the Azalea Singers un der the direction of Mrs. C. A. McKenzie. Mrs. Robert Swan will talk briefly on the swallow and its habits, and Mrs. Calvin Johnson will give a short talk on the pansy. The guest speaker for the a ft ernoon will be Mrs. Phil Brady who will talk about fuschsias. Mrs. Phil Brady is well known to m any of the m em bers, having been a visitor to the Azalea G ar den Club on m any occasions and is an au th o rity on fuchsias and th eir m ethods of growth.
