People of this community little realize the tremendous, * . i • • rr i it u ask facing the city council in Its eftort to Study all char- ers and to come up with a recommendation to be sub- nitted to the voters later. Behind these deliberations ire ideas to have a charter which will create no hardship in anyone, and at the same time do the most g<x>d for the most people. It has been hinted to the Pilot that dissatisfaction is about town concerning the council meetings—that they are not open to the public. This rumor should be “spiked” immediately for such is not the case. 1 hese meetings are open, but only a few people have come to listen. The last three Tuesday evenings the council has met at Pete Lesmeister’s office. Next Tuesday, how ever, a few of the men will attend a League of Oregon Cities conclave at Portland, thus no meeting. When a model charter is ready for submission to the people, it will be published for the people’s approval or disapproval. Such will be true of all city ordinances. Such will I k * true of all council deliberations, for the Pilot will have a reporter present to record the happenings. The council members, the Pilot is inclined to think, are primarily concerned about the future of the city, and not for the individu.il members of the council as so many have suggested by their remarks. 1 he integrity of these men need not be defended in any of the deliberations.
