Thursday, May 3, 1951 BROOKINGS-HARBOR PILOT, BROOKINGS, OREGON Last Rites Sunday For Mrs. Williams Continued from Page One covered wagon during w'hich time they endured many hardships such as Mrs. Williams, then Mrs. Freeman, sitting up nights burn ing up her hand-made quilts to keep away mosquitoes from the sick children so they could rest. After living there a year, the family decided to go farther north —so on their sojourn to Okla homa, other relatives joined them but hard luck struck again and the other 13 members of the par- ty took sick, compelling Mrs. Freeman to care and cook for them by camp fire. In 1908 they decided to go west, so they chose a little town by name of Har- bor, from the map and decided to go there and build themselves a house “hanging over the ocean” or take up a homestead up one of the big canyons and be the “fartherest family up the canyon and live there until Mr. Free man turned a gray mule”. They carried out this plan but this pioneer trip took a year with many disallusionments and hard ships suffered along the way. Mr. Freeman passed away in 1927 on their homestead up Jack Creek canyon. Mrs. Freeman then went to live with her son, Wil son and family, until 1930, when she was united in marriage to Robert Lee Williams. They re turned to the old Freeman home stead for ten years at which time they retired and mored to their present home in Brookings, where she passed away April 27, 1951. Mrs. Williams was well known as a kind and understanding friend and a lover of her churcn and flowers, She had a deep un- derstanding of other people’s sorrow's and troubles and was 1 never too busy or tired to help i anyone. She always had a cheer- ■ iul word for everyone» and was loved as a grandmother by all the children in the community. Along Azalea Row Bv B.
