What, if you may ask, do these promiscuous strikes over the country mean? What is the master plan behind the railroads, the strike of the bus depot employees at Portland. There seems to be no particular wage dispute. What, can you tell, will be the outcome and where will these troubles lead this nation in its unit? Portland for more than two weeks, and no hope is be ing held when the Portland dispute will be settled. In the railroad strike, authorities are unable to cope with mediators cannot work out any solution, when none is apparently demanded by the switchmen. Such action ht nicely in the scheme of the Soviets in J. C. Wright, who has business interests at Oak Ridge. Ore., has returned to Brookings for a short stay. Hendricks went to San Francisco Sunday for a week’s tour of wholesale furniture houses preparatory to their opening of the annex to the furniture store. E. A. Elston left Monday for Tacoma to be with Mrs. Elston, who recently underwent surgery, and who is not recovering as expected. When he left, Mr. Els ton was not certatin when he would return to Brookings. Graveside services were held Friday at Smith River cemetery for the infant born to Mr. and Mrs. Don Carson, last week. A niece of Mrs. Homer Kcss- ler, Mrs. Robert Sheehan and her family, visited at the Kess- ler home on their way home to Rawlins, Wyo., last week. They visited Los Vagas, will go home by the Columbia River Highway and Boise, Idaho. The Sheehans operate a hotel at Rawlins. The library wil be open to the public in its temporary quarters at the VFW hall, as soon as a new entrance is completed. Ma terials and labor are donated. It is hoped that a small plot of ’ land or building may be found, centrally located, and reasonably priced that may be bought for a permanent home. There is a sum of $252 in the building fund at present. Proceeds of the carni val and personal donations have accumulated this. This worthy project needs more support from the community.
