KIEM, Eureka, dropped from the
pedestal two weeks ago folowing

competed and was believed to
have been the best contestant by
all who understand music, sing

final^ Dave Hildebrand, one of
KIEM’s popular announcers, and
a favorite of the juvenile listen
ers, quit his job in disgust, tell

any child in the manner he had
wntnesed.
Patsy, who won first in Dec.
1949 contest of “Stars of 1960, ’
was supposed to have received
a radio as prize. To date she has
never been given the prize. Her
mother, living not far from Eu
reka, has made regular inquiries
but has always been brushed off
with the remark: “The stock
has not arrived.”
The prize dangled in front of
the contestants in the recent elim
ination was the promise of sing
ing on the Breakfast Gang and
Mel Venter, Aug. 5.
Since Dave Hildebrand left *he
broadcasting of childrens stor-
ies and programs, the popularity
among the young fry. Dave was
usually reading greetings to a
dozen or more youngsters almost
every evenirtg, the past week
three has been the average.
Local people who heard the
recent contest. say that Patsy
Cook is far superior to what she
was last December, had come
out with a rich and distinctively
operatic voice. Now* 14, she is
under guidance of Mrs. Norine
Harvey, accredited teacher nf
piano, voice and pipe-organ.
