INGS-HARBOR PILOT. BROOKINGS. OREGON THURSDAY, MAY 11, 1950 Pelicans Massacred In Second Game, Sun., When Merchants Shut All Gates The Crescent City Merchants i continued their “hex” on Brook ings by defeating the Pelicans for the second time at Crescent City, Sunday, this time by a 10 to 1 score. Salvage started on the mound for the Pelicans and got by the first inning, one, two, three but the Merchants hopped onto him for seven hits and five runs in the second and third; Astin re lieved him to start the last of the fourth and after retiring the first two batters, Knight slapped a long home run between left and center. Three walks and two hits in the sixth were good for two more runs, with only one out, proving that it was not Astin’s “day” for pitching. Third Itiiseman Jim Barrett then trad- e*d positions with Astin and re- tired the side. Two hits and two walks off Barrett in the seventh gave the Merchants their final tally, with Barrett retiring the side in the eighth. While t h e Pelicans touched Templeton, Del Norte high school pitcher, for nine hits in seven in nings, they were never able to bunch hits effectively. Four fast ! double plays on the part of the: Merchants infield cut down sev eral fine scoring opportunities. Despite this second straight loss, the Pelicans give indications of developing into a good club, especially with the proposed ad dition of a first string catcher| and first baseman. Lack of suf-i ficient practice games is np doubt , tlw Pels principal handicap. League play starts next Sun day with the locals making the long trek to Myrtle Creek. First ■ home game will be against Ash- land on May 21, the Azalea Fes lival week-end. Box score : Brookings ab r h po a I 2 5 0 Matson. 2 ............. 4 0¡ Spangler, rf ............ 4 0 1 2 D. Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Eph. 2:8-9. In order to be saved and have a home in heaven, we must not have against our records any thing that defiles (Rev. 21:27) Sin defiles. Sin cannot enter in to the kingdom of heaven. There fore, if there is sin in our lives, we must get rid of it in order to enter heaven. Of all the religious philoso I I hies in the w’orld. the only one that points out a reasonable method of getting rid of past sin is Christianity which points to the atoning sacrifice of Christ on Calvary for our sins. The Bi ble tells us all have sinned (Rom. 3:23), so all men everywhere can only be saved by accepting Christ as their Saviour. The first step w’e must take toward heaven is the REALIZATION of our need of Jesus as our Saviour from sin. I The second step toward heav en is Foregiveness of Sin, or what the theologian calls justification We are justified only by faith in Christ: “If you give yourself to Him, and accept Him as your Saviour, then, sinful as your life may have been, for His sake you are accounted righteous. Christs’s character stands in place of your character, and you are accepted before God just as if you had not sinned.” Steps to Christ, on page 62. God freely forgives your sins when we accept Christ and re pent of and confess our sins: “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confess- eth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” (Prov. 28:13). If we are truly sorry for our sins, God will forgive them and we will forsake them. God’s Holy 10 Commandments law points our sin in our lives. When we accept Jesus as our Saviour. He takes our place be fore the law as a condemned transgressor, and w’e are given His place before the law as a justified saint. We, by the grace cf God. stand before Him as though we had never sinner, had never broken His law. ■KRK a» 0 0 0 1 0 3 1 0 SAVED!
