T hursday , march 3 o , 1950 Gold Beach Notes Mrs. Cleo Florence, daughter of Mrs. Jos. M. Johnson, has re turned from Tacoma, Wash, and is employed in the Rogue River Cafe. She and her little son will occupy the Johnson cabin. Bar bara Owen came from Tacoma at the same time and is also em ployed at the Rogue River Cafe. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rader re ceived a call from the Scotia hos pital late Tuesday evening that their daughter, Jerry Bishop re ceived two broken legs in an au tomobile accident while return ing from a vasit to the Bay area. No more details are available. The Raders left by car immedi- iately for Scotia, Elmer Costelloe and Dan Mer cer left by plane on a busines.. trip to Coos Bay, Wednesday, returning the same day. The Gold Beach Taxi has a stand in front of the theatre, with headquarters at Gold Beach hotel. The new phone numbers are 531 or 715. OREGON Miss Elizabeth Baldwin and Miss Thompson of the state pub lic wealfare office, Portland, vis ited the Curry county office at Gold Beach. Monday. Mrs. Jessie Fromm of Port Orford is visiting the D. M. Moore home. A series of accidents resulted in three broken arms the past week. Last Thursday. George Christian fell from a ladder at the meat market and broke one arm above the wrist and sprain ed the other. Dorothy Hany fell from a ladder at the Sunset Inn and broke her arm. On Monday Mrs. D. M. Moore slipped and fel at the People’s Co. All cas-! ualties are reported doing nicely. I Mrs. J. B. Sargenti was releas ed from the Gold Beach hospital and returned to her home af j Port Orford Monday. Her tiny, 2-lb. 9-oz. baby girl, however, was kept at the hospital for fur ther care and arrangements were made through the Red Cross to have the baby flown to Doern- becker hospital, Portland, Wed nesday for several weeks of hos pitalization. Due to weather conditions the plane was unable to go until Sat- urady. Rov Rader, manager of Leith Air Service, flew the plane. The tiny youngster was placed aboard in an oxygent tent with Nina Pinson in charge. Mrs. William Ackerman and her two daughters. Cheri and Jackie, of Forks of Salmon. Cal., spent the week-end at the home of Mrs. Ackerman’s sister, Mrs. Katherine Sandstrom. OPHIR NEWS doing most of his practice work selling Monarch matches. Most of the art work is in at this time, articles arc being turned in by the English classes—so it won’t be long un til the project is complete, soon as the weather breaks, we will finish up with our pictures. All we need is a break in the wea ther. Shush, it’ll start raining7 ’Lil OF Ophir is back. A few months ago someone swiped our sign from in front of the school gym. To say we were a bit put out is saying it mildly, but any way time has healed the scars and we again have a sign to re- place our loss. The sign was first put up as an answer to the question ‘Where is Ophir?’ We would kinda like to see this sign stay. How about it? A demonstration o n baking technique was given by Mrs. Frances Brennan Monday at the Ophir schools. . Bob Whittaker has accepted invitations to the ‘Duck Preview’ and the ‘Beaver’ open house for high school seniors, April 14 to 16th. I Dick Whittaker was home last week-end after completine his term at U. of O. He graduated from Ophir High last year—you remember him, the guy with the black curly hair and the big' warwhoop. Apigian, formerly of Constantinople, Turkey, and at present district pastor of the Grants Pass district of the Sev enth-Day Adventists, will be the guest speaker at the MV hour this coming Saturday afternoon and will also speak at an eve- ning service to be held at the Baptist Community church, Sat- urday evening at 7:30. Apigian, who underwent se- vere persecution at the hands of the Turks during World War 1, because of being a Christian, will tell of his experiences which also include some incidents of his life among the Arabs after eluding his Turkish persecutors. The morning service this week will be presented by the pastor. A brief sermon entitled “Great- er Love Hath No Man" will be followed by the quarterly com munion service. Prayer meetings are continu ing at the pastor's home on Wed nesday evenings. Weekly studios on the “Patriarchs and Proph ets” are currently being con ducted.
