THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1949 JLocals Attended Eugene Function ^4 Six Brookings couples went to Eugene last Saturday to attend the Eugene SPEBSQSA charter’s Parade of Quartettes. Appear ing on the program there besides the Eugene chapter chorus were 12 of the best quartettes in the west, from as far away as San Francisco in the south to Port Angeles in the North. These exponents of the art of Barbershop singing had the au dience of 1100 applaunding wild ly and were forced to do many encores. The Brookingsites had trouble in naming their favorites of the evening since all the groups were extraordinary in their partisular style of singing. The ‘After-Glow’ or after theatre party for bar bershoppers lasted until the wee hours and even then the listeners hadn’t had enough of that har mony as only barbershoppers can sing it. Making the trip from here were Mr. and Mrs. Bert DeMoss, Mr. and Mrs. oss Putnam, Mr .and Mrs. Charles Grayshel, Mr. and .Mrs. Emil Moore, Mr. and Mrs, Lloyd Moss and Mr. and Mrs Bob Perkins. All were convinced that once anyone attends their first bar bershop quartette show, he is a dyed-in-the-wool fan from that moment on, and would be willing to travel miles to see and hear the “sweetest music this side of heaven.” Locals Plan "Big” Night Brookings Chapter of the So ciety for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartette Singing in America is putting its members through the final ‘tune-up’ period prior to the “big night’’ when the local chap ter will receive its charter, that being October 29. Mrs. Lloyd Morris, who has been directing the group in prac tice sessions has put her stamp of approval on the manner in which the chorus has learned numbers to be sung at the pro-| gram following the presentation of the charter. Appearing on this program, to be open to the public, will be the famous Klamath Falls chapter l chorus. This group, under able direction of Johnny Houston, en- CO.
