THURSDAY, JULY 14, 1949 , SMITH RIVER Smith River 4-H club members with their leader, Paul Maris, | and club president, George Jacob-1 ¿on, parents and friends enjoyed a swimming party and weiner roast at Buckner’s Island, Mon- i day evening, when everyone had an enjoyable time. The Club Members are plann-! ing for the county tour to be held Sunday, July 17, with a picnic dinner to be served at Smith River bridge. An enjoyable picnic was held Sunday at Mill Creelc park, where the group had a pleasant time, following lunch served at noon. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Woodruff, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Beem and two sons, Mrs. Ed na Ross, Mrs. Eddie Westbrook, Mrs. Ada Hursh and Mrs. Wil liam Shafer. Mrs. Lloyd Tyler has returned to San Anselmo after spending the holiday vacation visiting her mother, Mrs. Agnes Maris and other relatives. Regular services will be held Sunday morning at the local church at 11 a. m. Sam Lopez of Crescent City will be the speaker Ain the absence of Rev. E. C. Hicks who is visiting at Salem. Hicks and grand daughter, Miss Dorothy Rowley, accompanied Mr. Hicks’ daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Cochell and sons, of Salem, on their return home. Rev. Hicks is planning to stay two weeks, vis iting relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Beem and sons left Monday for their home at Los Angeles after spending their vacation visiting her moth er, Mrs. Edna Ross. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence West brook returned home Monday1 from the Bay area where they spent two weeks and Mrs. West brook underwent a medical check up at a clinic. LOCAL NEWS While many details are lacking concerning the marriage, Clyde Hastings and Janet Huntington eloped late last week and were married. They are living here. Leo Lucas, president of Curry County fair board, attended a meeting of that group at Gold' Beach late last week. Plans are taking shape for th;s annual af fair to be staged the first few | days of September. Claude Wright has taken his examination for real estate sales man and is now working for C O. Leonard Agency. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Piatt of Weyerhausor Camp 4. are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Harbin al present. Miss Nell Fox arrived from Berkeley last week to spend two weeks on the Upper Chetco with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. John Arlandson of Coos Bay were overnight visit ors at the home of Mrs. Arland- son’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Payne the first of the week., Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Glidden aie| in San Francisco where Mr. Glid- ’den is undergoing medical treat ment as he has been in poor health for some time. Joe Morrell returned home re cently after being away about a month. He visited in Klamath 77/e World's Best Climate Falls, his former home town, and attended the Eagles Convention at Pendieton as delegate of Klam-1 ath Falls Aerie No. 2090. He re-' ports that there were 1600 mem bers present at the convention. Mrs. Bernadine Steele is in San Francisco where she is at tending summer school of a San Francisco College. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamilton of Medford have moved to the Wilson Freeman ranch on the W inchuck w h e re they are in charge of the ranch. Mr. Hamil ton is a former local resident, 3—— ........
