The state veterans’ department emphasizes the fact that para graphs 2 and 3 of the tax exemp tion law should not be confused, and cited legal opinion of the PAGE THREB the World’s Best Climate state tax commission dated Feb. 15, which points out that each of these sections stands by itself. In other words, there is no limit on the amount of pension or compensation which may be received by a veteran whose dis ability is rated as 40 per cent or more by the VA. The. $1500 limitation applies only to thsoe whose disabilities are rated by a private physician. Veterans in this category must submit a statement of last year’s pension or retirement pay along with a physician’s certificate when ap- plying for the tax exemption. Those veterans with the recognized disabilities should im- mediately write the veterans ad- ministration's regional office, 208 S. W. 5th Ave., Portland, for a current Cetrified statement to submit to the county assessor. The county service officer urges all who are eligible to file same. .
