I "ANTIQUE TEA" EXCEEDED HOPES OF CLUB, TUES. 1949 Teams Representing Curry, Coos and Doug las Counties To Vie At the district tournament, set for Friday and Saturday nights of this week, at Coos Bay, Brook ings Bruins will meet one of the two Douglas county teams in the first game, Lynn Hampton, sup erintendent. told the Pilot, Tues day. Drawing will take place at the tourney, Friday evening. Since there are two distinct B leagues in Douglas county, it has been decided not to pit these against each other in the elim ination round, rather to pit the coast teams against the Douglas county winners. From this con clusion Brookings will face either Riddle or Drain in the opener, and Powers, Coos County winner against the other. There is no basis for compari son of the strength of the coast teams with Douglas county win ners. Brookings and Powers di vided games in their two meet ings earlier this season. According to Lynn Hampton, the team will remain at Coos Bay following the game, Friday, not trying to make the tiring trip either way, whether they win or lose in the first game. Should Brookings enter the finals, Saturday evening, effort is being made to charter busses for those who wish to make the trip, and have no way of getting to Coos Bay. Hope is held by Coach Guthrie that the Bruins will reach the finals, basing his conclusions on the team work displayed by the boys all season. Winner of this tournament will represent this district at the state tournament, held at Union, next week. Have Best Chance Now The Bruins, winners for the second consecutive time, Curry county championship, realize as individuals, that this is the best chance they ever will have to enter the state B tournament. It has been pointed out by those who have closely followed the development of the 1949 Bruins team, that the teamwork this year carried them to the title. Such teamwork will make the Brookings team real contenders in the district tournament, and possibly in the state tournament.
