We may have our troubles at home with high prices, which are still rising, hut we dd not have hunger as may be seen at every turn in Europe, including England. During war years, when many were away in defense of this country, there seemed times when it was stretching the imagination to re count blessings for which we might offer our thanks. That has passed, but results of war are ever-present just the same. There seems times that the United Nations organization is standing still—getting nowhere at all. However, We may rest assured that as long as any nation is willing to sit in confer ence, war is still some distance away. These United States, in 1947, produced one of history’s bumper crops. There is plenty to eat, and people of this counthy are eating— eating well at every meal. . Today, as we sit at our tables, could we all pause one moment and reflect upon the many blassings that are our—that is not too difficut a job to do, regardless of your bank account. Homemakers Corner Starts This Issue A column, full of hints for the lady of the home, begins in this issue under guidance of Mrs. Aldene Roberts, county home demonstration agent, who al ready has gained a large fol lowing over the county through her work. “This is a grand opportunity for me to contact the homemak ers of the Brookings-Harbor area before I start talking about anything else and this is my way of doing just that,” she says, in her letter to the Pilot. Stone Artist Dies Simon P Bigham. 76, of Oak Grove, who had been credited with the designing and construc tion of the stone work in Silver Falls park near Silverton, died late Saturday in Gladstone.
