anyone hears the nam e: “Pendleton,” n a tu ra lly it comes to them
th a t Pendleton is the place where they stage those fam ous round
ups. Portland is associated with the Rose Festival; Cheyenne. Wyo..
for the annual stampedes, and so on. Brookings has th a t to look
forw ard to, if local people put effort into this event.
It will take work, plenty of work, some joy and perhaps m any
disappointments, before the world will finally know all about the
azaleas, especially if people are to associate th a t nam e with this
imm ediate area. It will take money to accomplish this feat—and
to earn this money will tak e effort—plenty of effort.
Shortly, perhaps in the next month or six weeks, m em bers of
the Azalea Festival Association may call on m any business estab
lishm ents oî the a re a —perhaps a suggestion will be m ade for beau
tifying the main street, it m ay be a request th at a flower box, or
a shrub be planted at a spot w here the whole picture could be m ade
one ot beauty instead of one which has no appeal.
In order, fully to realize the benefits which the annual Azalea
Festival can be to the community, the entire com m unity m ust, by
all means, give absolute and whole-hearted support to the venture.
Success ot this event depends exactly upon th at support!
