Home Economics president, Florence Bursk gave a report of club activities. The teen-age m eeting will be held May 26 at the hall with Cecelia Tryon as chaperon, a s sisted by parents. D uring lecture h o u r C. W. G rant, district agent of E ureka district, F arm ers Insurance, gave a talk, discussing insurance rates to farm ers. Tom Pennell of F ort Dick was appointed Grange insurance agent for Del N orte County. Mr. G rant showed two educational movies: “Tropical Flowers in Am erica,” and pictures of old Mexico. At the close of business, re freshm ents w ere served a t the banquet hall. Firem en Sponsor Dance The annual firem en’s d a n c e sponsored by the local firemen, S atu rd ay night, was a success. Music was furnished by D esJar- din’s orchestra. A neat sum was cleared, with proceeds going to purchase fire equipm ent. Clothing Drive Success In B rookings-H arbor Dist. National Em ergency Clothing drive, which ended Tuesday, was a success in this area, Mrs. J. E. Stevenson, chairm an for the area, told the Pilot. The drive here collected a p proxim ately 100 pounds of shoes, bedding and clothing, which will be sent to overseas nations, w a r tim e allies which a rc in w ant. Thor Ask returned Sunday a f ter a week spent at P ortland and Medford. He attended a conven tion of freezer locker men a t Portland, early in the week. H. T. Jacobs retu rn ed to his home, Tuesday a fte r six weeks spent at the P o rtlan d sanitarium , receiving medical tre a tm e n t for shingles. He is much improved in health. Oregon * I1L k 'Not oil for the lamps of China, but lum ber for the homes of Brookings” is the slogan of the Curry County Lum ber Co., as it got its planer under way this week. “The planer may not be in full production until next week,” said Homer Kessler, “since there are a few ‘bugs’ to work out. Next week will see a big difference. “I w ant to furnish people of this area lum ber a t reasonable prices.,” he added. The last m eeting for the school year of the local Parent-T eachers Association is set for Friday a f ternoon at 3:15 Plans for picnic last day of school, May 22, will be completed at th a t time. The responsibility of selecting a queen for the festival rests on the association, and definite plans will be announced at this m eet ing. An added a ttrac tio n will be the 4-H Sewing Club display.
