Mrs. Eliott brought along her Jap maid and nurse to care for the chil- den. Her name is Elaine Nakama and she is from the Island of Kahuku Oahu. Mrs. Eliott’s moth er and father, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Emmett and daughter, Marion of Oswego, returned to the states with her. She brought a 1946 car too, and with it they continued to Portland and Seattle. The Em metts were school chums of the Harbins and Charles Bickner. All were entertained at the Bickner home one evening. Seems like old times to see El mer Hanscam out bossing around his crew of sons, Vernon. Junior, and Mervin, who are back on the job after years of war service. Frank Smith, w-ith his side-win der motorcycle, recently made a round trip on it to Pistol River— some tryout. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Metz of Longview, Wash., were overnight guests at the McPherson Courts late last week. Mr. and Mrs. H. II. Beach of Garden City, and Kansas City, Mo., were week end guests at the same place. H. O. Chapman, of the West Coast Telephone Co., of Coos Bay, wast a Saturday business visitor in Brookings. Archie Anderson’s car, Friday afternoon, was parked in front of Chad’s Fountain. A large, old model sedan, left without brakes on, was parked in front of the Templar hotel. Suddenly it backed across the street, hit the Ander son car, smashing the rear fen der, and bending the wheel next to the curb. Non Sidlitz has begun construc tion of a new- home north of Le roy Marquis’ place. The much-patched county dump truck finally gave out by break ing an axle. The loaded truck was coming off McVay’s bar. Strikes in the east, says Art Crook, coun ty commissioner, have prevented repair parts from coming through on order. | Mrs. Gladys Kindall no sooner arrived home than she went to work renewing the sills under her house. She is being assisted by her son, Wesley. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Brauch of Tulsa, Okla., were Brookings-Har- bor visitors the past week. They arc looking for a home-site lo cation with hopes of moving here, and perhaps eventually going into business in this community. W. K. Burrell was in Portland last week on a business and plea sure trip. Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Burrell had as visitors last w-eek, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Elston and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Schrock, of Tacoma, Wash. Azalea Garden Club plant and bulb sale will be held ull day, on Tuesday, March 26 at Moore's Variety Store. Bring in your bulbs and plants, plainly marked early Tuesday morning. Martha V. Pete and his fam ily have moved to Montana where they will make their home. Art Crook, county commission-1 er, and Bill Campbell made a bus iness trip to Eureka, Calif., o n . Monday. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Clemmensi enjoyed a visit over the week-end w i t h Mrs. Kathryn Griffith of J Portland. Mrs. Griffith is a sister i of Mr. Clemmens. Elmer Bankus returned home from the Knapp hospital, at Cres cent City, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lawson of Coos Bay were week-end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Chapman. The Lawsons intend to locate in Brookings as soon as possible. Mrs. Goldie Smith, postmaster, spent Tuesday at Gold Beach. Flora Smith took her place for the day.
