C O M Robert Hansch passed away in his sleep March 13, 2023 at his home in Eugene Oregon, after a long illness, a few days after his 78th birthday. Bob was survived by his two cats Coco and Apsu, his three brothers, three nieces and nephews, and a body of art in which his visions of music, philosophy and the natural world will continue to be seen in local homes and galleries. Shared with his friends and family, Bob’s art will forever be a reminder of his artistic talents that spanned the use of pastels, acrylics and stained-glass. He was a child of World War II, born on March 5, 1945 to Margaret and August Hansch who moved from city to city while Gus trained in the U.S. Navy and then deployed to fight in the Philippines. As a baby, Bob knew his cousin Jimmy and other relations in New Jersey. Like his father, brothers — Tom and Gary— he loved fishing. In college he studied archaeology and art. He joined in protests for Civil Rights in southern States in the 1960’s. He spent the rest of his life studying ancient cultures, art, and composition. Later in life, he settled in Eugene, Oregon and in his last years his paintings studied pristine streams, mountains, and forests in central and northeastern Oregon. From his more abstract work, he was proud to have designed the menu art for Jo Federigo’s jazz bar in Eugene. He loved music, particularly classic Russian composers, American jazz. Bob’s ashes will rest in the Umpqua River between Elkton, Oregon and the sea. A P R I L 1 3 , 2 0 2 3 7
