CALENDAR CALENDAR When Pulitzer prize-winning journalist and immigrant rights activist Jose Antonio Vargas visited the University of Oregon in 2017, he inspired students to create Define American. The organization will host two screenings of Human Flow by Ai Weiwei, a Chinese artist, activist and director. The documentary explores the global refugee crisis phenomenon — now the greatest human displacement since World War II. The film spans 23 countries and shows the refugees as human rather than the portrayal of refugees as distant victims or lawless people subverting the law by media outlets — wherever you get your news. The event is organized by University of Oregon Define American chapter, in partnership with the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics, Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Oregon Humanities Center, Global Justice Program, No Lost Generation UO, and The Department of Romance Languages. The film, Human Flow, has two screenings. The first screening, followed by discussion led by Portland Meet Portland Director Manuel Padilla, is at noon Thursday, June 7. The second screening is 6:30 pm Tuesday, June 12, at 184 Knight Law Center at UO and has a post-screening discussion led by Define American chapter members Mariko Plescia and Rachel Alm.
