CALENDAR A lot of LGBTQ+ Pride events are catered towards older audiences, with many of them taking place in nightclubs and bars. And although there are events accessible to those under 21, such as marches and parades, there aren’t many options specifically catered to younger children. Luckily, Barnes & Noble’s Eugene location has an event for all ages to fill that gap. B&N is hosting its first-ever Drag Queen Storytime on Saturday with local drag queen, The Empress. The Empress is a part of the Imperial Sovereign Court of the Emerald Empire (ISCEE), a community service organization in Eugene that formed in 1974, according to its website. ISCEE raises money to contribute thousands of dollars to community and social charities, which benefit both LGBTQ+ and straight communities, such as Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) and HIV Alliance. The Empress will be reading Recess Queen by Alexis O’Neill, a queer- friendly children’s story about bullying. People of all gender expressions, and ages, are welcome. If you end up buying a book, tell the cashier that you’re there for the event and part of the proceeds will go to ISCEE. Barnes & Noble will also be raising money and taking queer-friendly book donations for Network Charter School’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance that the school will create in their upcoming fall term. Drag Queen Storytime starts at noon on Saturday, July 1 at Barnes & Noble (1163 Valley River Drive). The event is FREE and open to the public. — Meerah Powell Coast Fork Farm Stand, 11am- 6pm, 10th & Washington, Cottage Grove. FREE.
