KIDS/FAMILIES Winter Break “School’s Out Safari,” 7:30am- The holiday spirit is strong in Saint Vincent de Paul’s this year as the organization puts on a Christmas dinner for the homeless. Individuals can take LTD bus lines 40, 41, 43 or 95 to get to the Eugene Service Station, which is hosting the dinner on Friday. Volunteers from the Eugene Police Department will run the event. According to Paul Neville, St. Vinnie’s director of public relations, “It’s a really good chance for the police and the homeless community to meet and relate to each other on a different level.” The annual dinner usually has around a dozen volunteer officers cooking and serving the meal, Neville says. “Officers donate to provide food items, which is supplemented by FOOD for Lane County and Brun’s Apple Market,” he says, and the dinner usually provides for 200 people. “People who are in our dusk-to-dawn program and Egan warming shelter have free access to LTD,” Neville adds. Community members interested in helping the homeless can volunteers for the Egan Warming Center. For more information go to eganwarmingcenter.com.
