Downtown Public Speakers Comedian Susan Rice got her comedy-feet wet performing at the Leaky Roof in Portland in 1983. The ’80s were kind to stand up comics, and Rice decided early on to take a stab at a career in comedy. After more than 30 years doing stand up, the seasoned comic is only getting funnier. A recent profile piece in Willamette Week describes Rice as a beloved fixture of Portland's growing comedy scene, who supports young talent and is revered by many performers as one of the city’s funniest people. She headlines Comedians Gone Wildish, sharing the stage with funnymen Frank King and Randy Mendez, Friday at the Richard E. Wildish Theater in Springfield. Rice’s self-effacing style is good for catching audiences by surprise. She lands joke after joke the way some boxers rely on a jab to soften an opponent and set up killer combinations. You're never laughing at just one of Rice's punchlines; you're reeling from a long series of deftly delivered corkers. Comedians Gone Wildish begins 7pm Friday, June 17, at the Wildish Theater, 630 Main St., Spfd.; $25. 14 June 16, 2016 • eugeneweekly.com Toastmasters Club, drop-ins welcome noon-1:05pm today & Thursday, June 23, Les Lyle Conference Rm, fourth floor Wells Fargo Bldg., 99 E.
