CALENDAR CORVALLIS It’s the year of the monkey and the Asian Celebration, whose posters all over town feature adorable smiling orange primates, is celebrating in style. In its 31st year, the Asian Celebration is one of the longest-running local cultural events in Eugene. UO assistant professor of percussion and renowned marimbist and composer Pius Cheung — deemed “a young Chinese-Canadian virtuoso” by The New York Times — will headline the event with Portland Taiko, a youth Japanese drumming ensemble. Hosted by the Eugene-Springfield Asian Council, the celebration runs for two days, Feb. 20-21, at the Lane Events Center and will feature performances, live music, fine art, an Asian food court and demonstrations of Asian crafts, cooking, and martial arts. To make it a citywide event, the Asian Celebration has partnered with several local groups like the Eugene Symphony for its “Fire and Water” concert 8pm Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Hult Center.
