You can’t trust the president or his high-profi le detractors to speak honestly and in plain terms about how things really are. In order to get a clearer picture of the so-called “state of the union,” the American people fi rst have to step up to the plate and speak for themselves. That’s why an artist collective, calling itself the U.S. Department of Arts & Culture, launched the People’s State of the Union last year. On Friday, Jan. 29, the Many Nations Longhouse in Eugene will be one of more than 150 locations across the country to host People's State of the Union storytelling events in which folks like you will have a chance to tell it like it is. The stories you bring to the People’s State of the Union will be recorded and sent to a group of poets in Philadelphia, who will read them, cut them apart and stitch them back together into what the USDAC calls the Poetic Address to the Nation, which the USDAC will broadcast in late February. Add your two cents. The People’s State of the Union takes place 2:30-4pm Friday, Jan. 29, at the Many Nations Longhouse on UO campus; FREE, see usdac.us for more information.
