MY NAME IS Jess Eldridge Sweaty Ganesh Yoga I am a yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and the owner of Sweaty Ganesh Yoga, located in downtown Eugene at 820 Charnelton St. My yoga journey began in 2005 when my friend took me to a Bikram yoga class, which is a set series of postures done in a heated, humid room. I simultaneously loved and hated the class! It was physically challenging, but everyone around me seemed to be breathing slowly with such composed looks on their faces, and I didn’t understand how that was possible. I continued going regularly and began to realize that the benefits of yoga extended far beyond the strength and flexibility I was developing in my body; I was also discovering self-acceptance, body acceptance, coping skills for anxiety and stress, a more powerful voice, and the ability to step into my authentic self. To this day, I have not found a more powerful tool than yoga for physical, mental, and emotional transformation. I moved to Eugene in 2009 to attend graduate school in counseling psychology. Over the next few years, I realized that my career path did not lead to a Ph.D, but rather that I wanted to own a yoga studio where I could combine my passions for yoga and therapy. In 2012, I left graduate school with a Master’s degree and became the owner of Bikram Yoga Eugene. Though I love the Bikram series, I also believe wholeheartedly that other forms of yoga are equally as beneficial, which is why I changed the studio’s name to Sweaty Ganesh Yoga and expanded our class offerings. Currently, we offer both heated and non-heated classes, and we have a variety of amazing teachers. I also offer private lessons for physical injuries, stress management, and other health-related goals.
