WHAT’S HAPPENING “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” This quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. exemplifi es the spirit of the day named after him: It’s the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service. In that spirit, the Friends of Trees MLK Day of Service Ivy Pull and Tree Planting in the Whila- mut Natural Area of Eastgate Woodlands of Alton Baker Park is an opportunity to pitch in. Volunteers will meet at 9am at the bridge north of Pre’s Trail to remove invasive plants and help native wild- fl owers and trees to fl ourish. Meanwhile, at the Science Factory Parking Lot near Autzen Stadium, the Eugene/Springfi eld NAACP Annual Community MLK March takes off at 9:30am, under the theme of Standing United for justice and equality. In the afternoon, Springfi eld’s Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. March & Celebration, a collaboration between Springfi eld Alliance for Equality and Respect, a program of the Community Alliance of Lane County, starts at 1:30pm at the Springfi eld Justice Center at 230 4th St., with a celebration to follow at Springfi eld High School, 875 7th St., Spfd. The eve- ning brings yet another event, LCC’s 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration with Keynote Presenter Giancarlo Esposito, who appeared in AMC’s Breaking Bad.
