You don’t have to be a hippy to love falafel, and this
cart proves it. The falafel is a Eugene institution at a
great value, with fantastic hot sauce and lemonade.
BARRY’S ESPRESSO & BAKERY
804 E. 12th Ave. 541-343-1141.
Barry’s breakfast sandwich is the EW art depart-
ment’s long-term obsession. It’s egg, bacon, cheese,
tomato and pesto on a challah roll — and the chal-
lah is to die for. They also have a tasty selection of
soups, plus coffee and other sandwiches.
SWEET BASIL EXPRESS

Don’t be fooled by the “express” in the name —
this food is worth your while. And while it’s fast
and inexpensive, the quality of the food — curries
especially — do not skimp on quality.

The coffee and pastries make for a good café, but
what puts Roma on the map is the mostly shaded
outdoor seating area, which makes it perfect for an
afternoon chai or pastry break.

The picking’s slim for vegetarians, but combining a
couple of appetizers would still make a great meal.
This fresh and delicious Thai food has the classics that
most Americans know, like pad Thai, awesome fried rice
fl avors, like pineapple, and the fantastic golden pumpkin.
The space is small, but more restaurants occupy the area,
plus two nearby parks for outdoors lovers.
More so than any other restaurant, Sweet Life is THE
place Eugeneans think of when they think dessert. The
decadent assortment of cakes, pastries and gelatos has
something for everyone, and we’re pretty excited about
the malted milk cheesecake, a June dessert of the month.

Order the Eugenewich and you might accidentally go
vegan. In fact, everything at the café is a vegan twist on
comfort food, so you must expect the unexpected. But
trust us on the Eugenewich.
If you’re from the Northwest, you might not realize that
fried catfi sh can be scrumptious, but it is, and so are all of
Delacata’s dishes that we’ve tried (all of them).

PIZZA RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Some people cry that it’s not traditional pizza or the
fresh-made meals cook too slowly, but PRI expresses
no interest in being the same-old same-old. Known for
its wise inclusion of toppings like pear and potato, some
omnivorous customers order the vegan version because
it’s so delicious.
