Audiences still reeling from the Eugene Ballet Company’s Dark Side of the Moon ballet will be thrilled to know that the company is set to perform another riveting homage to some of music’s fi nest. All You Need is Love, the new originally choreographed ballet from artistic director Tony Pimble, is a collaboration of The Eugene Ballet Company and acclaimed Portland music group The Nowhere Band — it’s ballet meets The Beatles. “This is really a unique opportunity for people to hear the music and see our rendition of it,” says Pimble. “Especially to hear (the music) live because none of that material got performed live with a full orchestra behind it.” All You Need is Love will be set to music from The Beatles albums Abbey Road and The White Album. The Nowhere Band will be taking an ensemble approach to recreate the songs (formerly heard only in studio version) as a 16-piece orchestra with horns, guitars, strings and vocalists. And all this will be entwined with the dialect of dance. “The overall theme of the work is love and the desire to connect,” Pimble says. Perhaps the most impressive thing about All You Need is Love is the use of contemporary ballet that will be showcased during intense partnering pieces. Keep your eyes out for duo Jennifer Martin and Juan Carlos Amy-Cordero as they dance to “Yer Blues,” with choreography that seeks to turn the expectations of male-female partnership upside down.
