Summer GUIDE Did you know there’s a SPAM Festival in Oregon? Amazing the things you learn while compiling a calendar of summer events — and there’s always something new added to the lineup. In the following pages, you’ll fi nd countless summer movies, concerts, street fairs and festivals, bike rides, celebrations and more, all organized into three categories: Close-In (Lane County and Corvallis), for those who like to stick close to home; Far Out (the rest of western Oregon), for those who like to plan weekend jaunts to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival or the concert series at the Oregon Zoo; and Outta State (a selection of events in Washington and California), for those drawn to the big-name concerts at the Gorge and the reggae festivals of northern California. But that’s not all. When you pick up your free Eugene Weekly , we like to give you as much content as we can pack into our pages. In longer pieces, we tell you about rodeos, your summer reading extravaganzas, blackberries (and alcohol), recommendations for cuddling (if you get your ass out of that kiddie pool) and a few nonrecommendations for when you desperately need the turbo-cooled air that only the mall can provide.
