Project Runway, these would actually
fl y in our neck of the woods.) Join
MCs Marv Ellis and Casey Mitchell
for an evening of style, runway antics
and music mixed by DJ Rain. A silent
auction for gift certifi cates to most of
the stores mentioned above rounds

Despite our constant jam practices in Mark’s basement, our hallucinogenic album covers, our use of the wildly popular
didjeridu, our experiments with various over-the-counter naturopathic edibles and a constant presence at summer
festivals … our band still can’t be as big as O.A.R. (left). We keep trying — gawd knows we keep trying! But there’s just
something about fi ve dudes with guitars, drums and a saxophone that just blows the minds of American dudes … who
also play guitar and drums and sax. Maybe we need to push our band to the extreme center of normality for success
like that. Mark: You’re out of the band! No cellos! Amy: You, too! You’re our best guitarist, but I’m sorry, no women

Drums and the human voice go hand-in-hand
with African dance, a delicate play of beats,
nonverbal communication and energetic
movements. The UO’s resident African
dance ensemble, Dance Africa, will present
a concert featuring sister-brother African
dance instructors Mondjou and Salif Koné.
The Koné siblings belong to a well-known
Griot family in West Africa, a group renowned
for its “ability to record events carefully and
accurately, using dance, music and song,”
according to a press release. Watch Dance
Africa’s concert and see what messages
you can decipher. 8 pm Thursday, Jan. 22,
