tion are now at risk of collapse. Thus our en- tire civilization is at risk of collapse and a community’s future survival may depend on essential local resources that are available to it. Here in the Northwest, the intact native forests and what they provide for us (clean water, salmon, soils and carbon storage bio- mes like no other) are going to be our lifeboats on a sinking ship. Now, when some agency like the Oregon Bureau of Land Management is damaging and destroying these lifeboats, they are threatening the future survival of our commu- nity as well as the survival of our own fami- lies. However, if the BLM, Forest Service, Oregon Board of Forestry and Oregon’s tim- ber barons enact ecological based restoration on ALL the lands they have damaged instead of continuing the destruction and poisoning they are currently perpetrating, we may con- sider them benign. They are unlikely to do this voluntarily however. Any entity or individual who threatens the survival of our community or our family now or into the future must be stopped, reversed or abolished. If our U.S. representatives, sena- tors, governors and other elected officials don’t understand how dire the current situa- tion is and are not actively opposing the de- struction and preparing communities for the inevitable hardships, then they need to be re- moved from office.
