To experience the annular, or “ring of fire,” phase of the eclipse, you must be located within this path, with the “ring of fire” lasting the longest at the centerline. For residents in North Douglas County and South Lane, this is spectacularly good news. Unlike the total eclipse in 2017, which was a bit of a drive and, indeed, somewhat of a hassle to find a place to hunker down and experience the totality of the moon blocking out the sun. The difference in 2023 is that the Moon will never entirely cover the Sun during an annular, or “ring of fire,” solar eclipse, you must use special eclipse safety glasses or viewers at all times.
