What does it mean'.’ Entomologists (people who study insects) have thought about this question for years. They consider it a form o f communication, o f telling where there is good food or pollen Be sure to note all your observations in your pad. Sticks and twigs Im k different under a magnifying glass. Study their textures Sketch magnified objects y»xi find. Use your glass on the concrete sidewalk cracks. If the soil is damp, you’ ll see insects busily working there. This is their home, their world Find a stone in a stream to sit on Study the stream Some tiny nicks shine brightly in the sun. Gold? No, bu, just as shiny. Study the geometry o f a spider web Chart the course o f a butterfly. If its wing brushes a leaf, note that it leaves a fine dust behind. Look at long-legged insects that are so light they can walk on top o f water and never cause a ripple You are looking at another world A small world A tiny world.
