y Thur»., Jon. 29, 1987 (Sec. I , SANDY (O r*.) POST— 7 Ernest Eldridge Funeral (or Sandy businessman Srnest W. (E rnie) Eldridge will be at l l a.m. Jan. 29 at Bateman Funeral Chapel, 520 W. Powell Blvd. - Mr. Eldridge, a contractor who Was responsible (or the construction ol buildings all over the western United States, died Jan. 25 at a Portland hospital. He was 70. He was born July 25, 1918, in Butler, Mo. He served in the U.S. A r my Corps of Engineers in Europe in World War II. Alter the war, he operated a trucking business in Missouri before moving to Oregon in 1948. He married Kathleen Dunn in 1952 in Moses ta k e , Wash. He o b ta in e d a jo u rn e y m a n plumber's license in ta s Angeles County, Cali(., in 1954. In 1955 he moved to Klamath Falls and began a plumbing contracting business, K la m a th F a lls P lu m b in g and Heating Co. He was awarded a general contract with public works (or the U.S. Navy at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls in 1957. He also was responsible (or other public works projects in the Klamath Basin. He and his family moved the business to Sandy in 1964, and the general construction company was incorporated as E.W. Eldredge Inc. in 1965. He employed many family members. He attended a Christian Science church and was a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors at America, /jjsociated General Con tractors, the Sandy Chamber of Com merce and the Sandy Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his son, Earl Eldridge of Citrus Heights, Calif. ; his daughters, Ginda Basham of Sandy and Connie Eldridge of Denton, Texas; and four grandchildren. Peggy Levisay Peggy tavisay of Sandy died in a Gresham hospital on Jan. 17. She was 51. She was born in Clearco, W. Va., on Nov. 30, 1935. She is survived by her friend, Mar- na Vaughn of Sandy; sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Wayne Osborne of Santa Clara, Calif.; a sister, Barbara of Washington, D.C.; a b ro th er, R obert L evisay of Washington, D .C .; her m other, Margie Gutfeld of Santa Clara; and numerous nieces and a nephew. Graveside services were Jan. 21 at the Walton Cemetery near Eugene. Lounsbury-Musgrove NJprtuary of Eugene was in charge of a r rangements. Dee Messersmith Retired lumber m ill worker Dee Messersmith died Jan. 19 at Mount Hood Medical Center of injuries from an automobile accident in Sandy on Dec. 24. He was 75. Dee Melvin Messersmith was born in Spalding, Neb., on Aug. 8,1911. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After he was married to Sadie C. McClanahan, they moved to he San dy area to make their permanent home. Dee worked in the mills until retiring. His wife preceded him in death in 1981. He is survived by his sister, Maye Macomber of Arcata, Calif., and a brother, Roy, of Elkton, Ore. At M r. Messersmith’s request, no service was held. Burial was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Sandy Funeral Home was in care of arrangements. Mary Hayes Sandy resident M ary L. Hayes died in a local care center on Jan. 23 at the age of 90. Mrs. Hayes was born M ary Louiza Hensley on March 19, 1896 in Arkan sas. She was married to Walter L. Hayes. He preceded her in death in 1966. Surviving are her children: Sterl ing Hayes of Portland, Dorma Lee Wittcky of Portland and Charles Hayes of Troutdale; eight grand children, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Jan. 28 at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland. Vault interment followed. Sandy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Sandy Feb. M Monday: Wiener wraps, buttered corn, vegetables and dip, applesauce and m ilk. Tuesday: M e a t patties, onion rings, seasoned green beans, sliced peaches, cinnamon bun and milk. Wednesday: Beef and bean bur rito, tossed green salad, bread and butter, mixed fruit and milk. Thursday: Spaghetti with meat sauce, cole slaw salad, cherry pie, garlic bread and milk.
