Carey F ru iti Sandy grad completes basic training Airman L a rry D Mathews, son of Froney and Violet Mathews of Sandy, has completed A ir Force basic train ing at Lackland A ir Force Base, Texas. During the six weeks at I^ackland, the airman studied the A ir Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Com munity College of the A ir Force. The airm an w ill now begin on-the- job training in the transportation field at Nellis A ir Force Base, Nev. He is a 1982 graduate of Sandy Union High School. Griffins get new daughter Jim and Julie G riffin of Portland re ce n tly welcomed a daughter, Melissa Holly, to the fam ily. She was born Dec. 17. She weighed 7 pounds. 15 ounces and measured 20 inches long She is their firs t child. Grandparents are Dale and Char G riffin of Rhododendron, Nancy Nabours of Denver and Bud Snell of Seattle. Great-grandparents include Win- nifred G riffin of Boring and M r and Mrs Robert Wright of King City, Ore Founds get new daughter Sally Founds welcomed the birth of a daughter, Sarah June, on March 17, St. Patrick's Day Sarah June weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19'.• inches long Grandparents are Norma and Wesley Founds of Sandy. The Sdndy Post F u n e ra l services fo r H arvey Burnes Gayken were held on March 15 at the Sandy Funeral Home with the Rev John VanLierop officiating Vault interment followed at F irh ill Cemetery He died at his home in Sandy on March 12. M r Gayken was born on Oct. 24, 1916 in Curtis, Wis He spent his early years in Minnesota where he receiv ed his education After graduation fro m high school he attended Agricultural College in Morris, M in nesota In 1954, he moved to Oregon where he married M yrtle Johnson on Dec 9, 1954 He was a buttermaker by trade and managed creameries at both Elizabeth. Minn , and Madison, Minn He was employed at Gresham Berry Growers for 15 years and the Troutdale aluminum plant for three years He was later employed at Boe ing He retired five years ago. At the time of his death, he was a m e m b e r of th e C o m m u n ity Presbyterian Church. He was in strumental in helping build The Chapel of the Hills Church Survivors include his wife. Myrtle, of Sandy; his son, Ron Gayken of Gresham; two daughters, Margie Gibbs and Barbara Coons, both of Gresham; two stepsons. James Johnson of Vancouver. Wash . and Gordon Johnson of Portland; two stepdaughters, Helen Lambert of Troutdale and Delores Moser of I^ake Oswego Also surviving are three brothers, Glen, Clarence and Roger Gayken, all of Minnesota; and two sisters, Hattie VanHeel of Alexan dria, Minn., and Idell Alt of Chicago; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren He was preced ed in death by two sisters and one stepson, Don Johnson of Sandy. Grade School, and was a 1933 graduate of Sandy High School Chella O zanne A fte r receiving his bachelor’s degree fro m the U n ive rsity of Oregon, he served for almost three years in the Navy. He received a Ph D in geology at the U niversity of Minnesota He and his wife, Jeannette, were m arried in 1936 He was a grade school teacher in L a k e C o u n ty , w h ic h is in southeastern Oregon, for 5*2 years He taught for seven years at Florida State U n ive rsity in Tallahassee before working at the University of Oregon M r Lund and his wife lived in Astoria at the tim e of his death C h e lla M O zanne, 95, ol Brightwood, died Thursday a fte r noon in a Portland nursing home She was born Jan 22, 1891) in Spr ingfield. Ohio She had been a resi dent of Portland prior to moving to California, where she resided for many years. She met Joseph L Ozanne of Brightwood and they were m arried Jan 23, I960 in Portland Since their m a rria g e she had re sid e d in Brightwood Survivors include her husband, Joseph L Ozanne. and a step daughler. Audrey Williams At her request there was no formal service.
