Bluff Road repairs delayed ‘Miracle’ topic of Fellowship • by DAN D IL LO N It will be at least next spring before the next stretch of North Bluff Road undegoes renovation C ity M a n a g e r Tom Reber, citing the lateness of the building season, a possible altern ative fun ding source and a debt the city owes for another pro ject, asked the Sandy City Council to postpone Phase I l of the three-phase paving process begun last year. After "some significant whittling” of street im provement funds during the budgeting process, the Bluff Road project was the lone street project targeted 667-6633 for the new fiscal year. H o w e v e r, s in c e th e passage of the budget, discussions have concluded that this too w ill take the back burner for three reasons: • It would be approx im ately Sept 1 before the contract could be let and work begun • The city has initiated d is c u s s io n s w ith Clackamas County seeking F e d e ra l Aid Secondary System funds for this road An answer or idea of the possibility of funding won't be forthcoming until early 1984 • The city owes Les B ro w n a p p r o x im a t e ly $5.000 in oversizing costs he spent c o n s tru c tin g Dubarko Road to collector street standard That debt will be paid from street im provement funds. If the county chooses the local road project, it would be a complete reconstruc tion of the road, which is approximately five times the cost of the program begun last y e a r. T h a t would also last longer than the three-phased project. “ If we postpone this pro ject until next spring, we m ay not have to do the pro ject at a ll,” said Reber, "and if we did do the pro ject we could combine it with funds from the next fiscal year and have one project of a larger scope at that tim e.” In other action Monday night, the council: —A p p o in te d Randy Oliver and Ken Humbert to the L ib ra ry Board and recognized long-time board members Lucille Ogden an d A1 M o rn e r.
