4- SANDY (Ora ) r o s i Thur» Oac 30 1982 ISac »I SCP invites audiences to cabaret The Sandy Community Player» w ill kick off their 1963 season with a reprise by some popular musical friends In their first p erfo r mance away from the San dy Community Theater, the local theater group will open the new season. Jan 13-15, with a dinner cabaret presentation, “ George G er shwin, Cole Porter and Friends,” at the Collins Retreat Center south of Sandy. The Players, battling ris ing costs, moved out of the local theater building this month, searchin for a new home Steve Christensen em p h a s iz e d th e R e t r e a t Center w ill not be the Players' permanent home, but rather presents the op portunity to present a d if ferent type of program for Sandy audiences “ We're doing our first show down there because it's artsy and it's going to be a lot of fun for three d a y s ," s a id S te v e Christensen who, along with Tom Ten Eyck, is busy readying music from the 1920s. 30s and 40s for the show “ We didn't want to do a show that would make peo pie think of '1 Got Rhythm' or ‘ C o le P o r te r ,’ ” Christensen said, so the group will reprise some of the songs from those two successful revues of the past two summers and add music from some other m u sicians who helped w rite the top music in New York during the spotlighted The sounds of Rodgers and H a rt ("B ew itch ed B o th e re d and B e w ild e r e d " ) , Jero m e Kern ( “ Old Man River") The dinner theater will be a benefit for SCP as they age. who would like advice about estate plann ing , w ills , c o n s u m e r com p la in ts, lan d lo rd -ten an t relations or other legal con cerns mav reserve a free 30 -m in u te a p p o in tm e n t with a volunteer attorney by contacting the center at 668-5569 The next Senior Law Project w ill be held next Thursday, Jan 6. 9 a m. to noon Tom Ten Eyck will offer a 10-week winter sess.on in humanities beginning next Thursday at 10 a m The class is sponsored by Mt Hood Community College and touches areas such as art, literature, music and philosophy.
