Nov II 19*2 ($ •< 1) By liquor funds Bazaars fill local calendar Sandy revenues boosted With the holiday season rapidly approaching, civic and social organizations are planning a host oi Christm as bazaars with traditional and unique of fenngs for gift-giving or holiday decorating Kob l.awson SUHS grad lands MHCC play lead A 1982 Sandy High School graduate w ill play the lead role when the Theater Arts Program of M t Hood Com m unity College presents the Portland Metro area's first production of the play “ T h e E le p h a n t M a n ," opening this weekend in the Studio Theater at 8 p m Rob Lawson will play John M e m c k , born with such deformities that he was exhibited as a freak until saved from this ig nominious existence by a yo u n g s u rg e o n . D r. Frederick Treves In spite of his physical appearance. M errick has a sensitive and perceptive m ind, and entered the circles of the upper classes of the late Victorian period in England Unlike the movie of the same name, the play does not use exaggerated make up to portray the defor m ities Instead, Lawson contorts his body and voice to give the illusion of defor mity. Lawson has been active in dram a since the eighth grade when he played the Beast in “ Beauty and the Beast ' He serves on the board of directors tor the Sandy Community Theater where he has performed in several productions, most recently “ T rib u te " and ‘ ‘I ’ve Got R hythm .” He a ls o d ir e c te d “ The Woolgatherer" for the San dy Community Players He is now attending MHCC on a talent tuition scholarship for theater The play is directed by Richard Melo, director of theater, and the cast con sists of nine actors who double playing many roles The p la y w il l be presented Nov 12,13,18. 19 and 20 in the Studio Theater at 8 p m Spaghetti feed planned at Bull Run The Bull Run Community Club is hosting a spaghetti dinner and evening of games this Saturday, Nov 13, in the school cafeteria The authentic spaghetti dinner, specially prepared by Mrs Konaella, form er cook at the school, w ill be served from 5 to 7 p m The games will be played from 7 to 9 p m Cost of the dinner is $2 50 Games w ill coat 25 rents The Oregon Liquor Con trol Commission reported this w eek th a t liq u o r revenue distributed during the 1981-82 fiscal year amounted to more than $72 million, an increase of 3.12 percent over the 1980-81 fiscal year The Gresham Communi ty Hospital Auxiliary is h a v in g its annual Christmas Bazaar tomor row, Nov 12, in the Con stitu tio n Room a t the hospital from 9 a m to 5 p m Free coffee will be served along with the bake C itie s an d c o u n tie s receive a share of the funds in proportion to population The city of Sandy received $26,502 80 and Clackamas County received $576,296 78 for the recently-completed fiscal year This does not include funds received from City Revenue Sharing or M e n ta l H e a lth Alcotiolism and Drug Ser vices accounts ■ale.
