Senior Center News: Obituaries: Veteran newspaper man dies M r Travis was born in Portland, the son of former Oregonian City Editor John L Travis and Myrtle Hunt He graduated from the Universi ty of Washington with a degree in forestry In 1965. he began a 16-year stmt with BPW as a fo re s try tec h n ician and was re s p o n s ib le fo r s e c u rin g easements for acquiring rights-of- way for transmission lines Later his duties included environmental concerns for the agency Jack Travis John Hunt “ Jack" Travis of San dy, retired newspaper publisher and Bonneville Power Administra tion employee, died Oct 29 in a Portland hospital He was 73 H e p u b lis h e d tw o w e e k ly newspapers, the Bonneville Dam Chronicle in Cascade Locks and the Hood River Sun in Hood River, for 25 years He served on the Hood River Port Commission and helped lead the commission's efforts to pur chase the Hood R iv e r-W h ite Salmon bridge across the Colum bia River He was past president of the Oregon Press Association and the Oregon Council on Public Broad casting He also was a former member of the Oregon State Pair Commission Locally, M r T ravis was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, a Sandy Community Players sponsor, a Mt Hood Community College “ Saint," and a local ad v is e r to the governor's ombudsman for inspec tion of nursing homes for the aged Baritone sets concert at Barton Barton Community Bap tis t C h u rch w elcom es Donald Ricks for a concert next Sunday, Nov 14 Ricks, a former baritone soloist with the Seattle and Boston Opera Companies, will appear at the church, lo c a te d a t 25400 SE Highway 224, at 7 p m For the past six months, Ricks has appeared in I-as Vegas, Reno and New York in G reg g T h o m p so n 's Broadw ay extravaganza "Follies on Broadway." Ill . when his car struck a telephone pole Dead is Steve Giuntini, 35, a carpenter who had worked for the Oregon T rail Construction com pany building custom and kit log homes Most recently he sub contracted work and built the play eqc oment at Welches G rade School In September, Giuntini won the bid to repair the drainage pro blems in the play area next to the school's new addition Born Aug 27, 1947 in Chicago, he graduated from Northern Illinois U n iv e r s ity in 1971 He had previously served in the U S M arine Corps in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969 M r. Giuntini had made his home in Brightwood for the past seven years. He is survived by his wife, M a r ily n of B rig h tw o o d; tw o daughters, Heather and Allison, of the fam ily home, his parents.
