The Oregon Transporta tio n C o m m is sio n m et e a r lie r this month in Klam ath Falls and voted for the increase. The sno nark perm its w ill increase from 81 to $2. with the cost of the annual perm it going from 85 to 87 The sno-park permit pro gram began during the 1977-78 ski season Accor ding to John Earley, public information officer, this is the first increase in fees The purpose of the per mits is to generate enough revenue to cover the cost of keeping the designated sno parking areas clear for the convenience of skiers and other users of the area " It's a dedicated fund and can only be used for plowing the lots," said Earley. " It (the sno park fees' generates its own revenue " At the Transportation Commission’s meeting, the five members received testimony reporting the cost of plowing had exceed ed revenues from perm it sales During the 1981-82 fiscal year, a total of 8458,932 was taken in. Watercolor classes to begin at gallery The G lacier Gallery in Rhododendron is accepting reservations for evening watercolor classes, which will begin Nov. 10. Sharon Smith, gallery director and watercolor a r tist, w ill instruct. Classes will be held every Wednes day for eight consecutive weeks from 7 to 10 p.m. The cost for the 24 hours of watercolor instruction is 850 Smith said the class will be limited to 10 students so interested persons should reserve a place as soon as possible by calling 622-4110. The permits are required from Nov 15 through April 30 Jo h n S h e ld r a k e , a m aintenance operations engineer for the commis sion, said there are about 63 areas throughout the state that require sno-park permits These include all downhill ski areas, several snowmobile parking lots and a few cross-country ski areas, in addition to areas in all mountain passes of the state. Sno-park permits issued by the State of Washington, are honored in Oregon under a special agreement between the two states' motor vehicle agencies Washington also honors Oregon permits. All designated w inter recreation parking areas are decided upon after first studied by the W in ter Recreation Advisory Com mittee. The committee is comprised of members r e p r e s e n tin g v a rio u s winter recreation groups and interests.
