Hood trails Frustrated hikers w ill be happy to learn that sum* mer weather is rapidly m e ltin g the snow pack c o v e rin g M t H o o d 's 40 2-mile Timberline T ra il, The Tim berline T ra il, which circles Mt Hood bet ween 5.000 and 7,000 feet, should be free on snow by the end of this month Currently, there are pat ches of snow on the south and west segments of the tra il and areas of solid snow on the north side When snow covers por tions of the tra il, hikers need to rely on map and co m p a ss to o rie n t themselves because the t r a il bla ze s m ay be covered Several sections of the tra il are not blazed Hikers on the Timberline Trail need to be prepared for adverse weather condi tions It is not uncommon for a fresh snowfall to oc cur in August or September at the b.UUU-foot level Hugs, black flies, mos- First meeting for Hawks is Saturday The first meeting for the Oregon C in d e r Hawks cross country team is Aug 2« at Mt Hood Community College track Practice w ill begin at noon and any boy or g irl 6 years old or older is eligible to join Practice for Sandy area athletes w ill be on Mondays and Thursdays at ■ Kt p m at Bull Hun School, next to Koslyn I ,ik<- P r a c tic e w ill be Tuesdays. The public is invited to attend Tee off time is from 9:30a m till noon An $18 fee for the 18-hole tournament must be paid by Sept 5.
