Sandy Baptist welcomes pastor
by DAN DILLO N
There may be a world of dif
ference between a metropolis like
Chicago and a small community
like Sandy, but new Sandy Baptist
Church pastor Fred Vogel sees no
need to change his message when
he takes over the local church this
Sunday.
" I want to carry on with the Bi
ble being applied to daily living,”
he said. ‘‘The more I was able to
carry that on, I found that people
are interested in that."
Vogel, 36, will preach his first
sermon this Sunday at the 11 a m
service on "God's Plan for Our
Church " A potluck will follow the
service
The day will conclude with a 6
p m. service and visit from Dr
Larry McCracken, director of the
Conservative Baptist Churches of
Oregon.
Sandy Baptist Church is located
at 34495 SE Jarl Rd
The new pastor is busy now get
ting acquainted with members of
his new church and the communi
ty He plans to speak with local ser
vice groups to get a grip on the
pulse of Sandy.
" I really want to get acquainted,
not only at the church, but I really
want to get acquainted with all the
people in town First of all I want to
find out where I am ," he said
Vogel replaces pastor Ed
Grable, who served in Sandy for a
dozen years, and brings with him a
commitment to fam ily oriented
service
"In the past I've had a strong
emphasis on family-type seminars
like marriage enrichment," he
said. "M y wife, Mary, has con
ducted seminars for the women on
being a woman, wife and mother
"W e'll have things like that
definitely," he added. "We want to
have that emphasis."
Weather permitting, the
Sandy Senior Center will
host a picnic tomorrow.

Park
The meal will be from
Loaves and Fishes to be en
joyed in the peaceful at
mosphere of the city park
