According to retired Col
onel Jack Baker, who has
been a member of the
association's water board
for a little over two years,
the surface system pro
vides adequate water and
will continue to do so “ as
long as the source Henry
Creek —is taken care of ”
He said it is a primary
concern of people that the
creek remain pure at the
source
The creek begins with
underground springs, near
the top of West Zig Zag
Mountain, just east of the
town
Baker said it's amazing
that the system has been
able to provide adequate
water for so many years
with relatively few pro
blems Some water sources
in the area, such as the
Lady Creek system, had to
be supplemented with d rill
ed wells in order to main

turbidity problems
He said that the turbidity
levels were found to be high
during the spring and fall
when runoff naturally in
creased due to heavy rains
and snow melt

December 1981, the water

To resolve this problem.
Baker said two years ago
the EPA requested the
water company install an
additional 100.000 gallon
storage tank just above the
water system's old reser
voir This would give the
system a three-day supply
during times of high tur
bulence.
The EPA is concerned
about turbidity because
germs can be carried along
in the particles of water

EPA re
quested that a tribidity
monitor also be installed
This w arns when the
tribidity levels in the water
