GARAGE SALES A Great American Pasttime For Profit and Pleasure TIPS FOR SELLERS 1. After cleaning the basement, a ttic , clo se ts__ join w ith several friends and neighbors. The bigger the sale the better. 2. Determine how much to charge on items by checking other sales first. TIPS FOR BUTERS 1. Be alert. If looking for a specific item, check the store price first. 2. Restrain yourself. You don't need to end up with a lot of junk. Mark prices clearly and securely so they cannot be swit ched. 3. Rummage through. Some of the best buys may be found in what appears to be junk. 4. Display items properly. Group similar items together and spread out your merchandise so shoppers can easily spot items of interest. 4. If you make a find play it cool. The seller could decide not to sell or raise a price if she or he thinks you really have something valuable. 3. 5. Keep expensive items and small objects (jewelry etc.) near the person handling the cash box. 6. Put away items not intended for sale (bikes, sporting equip* ment, mower, picnic table). 7. Safeguard your money. Let one person handle the cash box and all transactions. 8. Offer free coffee. 9. ADVERTISE THE SALE IN THE CLASSIFIED SECTION OF THE OUTLOOK & POST. Give good directions and list items for sale. 5. Be aware of pricing on used merchandise such as clothing, furniture or sporting goods. Clothing may be cheap, but fur niture expensive. 6. Be prepared to take what you buy with you. 7. Cash is preferred. Many sellers won't accept checks. 8. Go early if you are looking for a specific item. 9.
