He was transported to Gresham Community Hospital by Alpine Ambiance At noon firefighters were dispatched to the city of Sandy's water plant at Alder Creek Upon a r riv a l th ey discovered the plant's fire alarm had again malfunc tioned W in term u te said the false alarm was the second in leas than 24 hours. At 7:12 p m , the day before, the system h ad also malfunctioned At 6 40 p m rescue per sonnel from the depart ment responded to the report of a man falling over Yocum Falls, just west of the M irror Lake parking lot near Government Camp Upon a r r iv a l they discovered a hiker wet and shaken but o th e rw is e unhurt On June 16 at 5 48 a m a passing motorists reported a Volkswagen on fire on Highway 26 near Alder Creek Upon a r riv a l at the scene, f ir e f ig h t e r s discovered that a minor electrical fire had already been extinguished The driver could not be located and the vehicle was later moved, according to Wintermute At 4.30 p m that same day the d e p a rtm e n t reponded to a report of a flatbed trailer on fire on Homestead Hoad, about a mile and a half north of Barlow Trail Road above Brightwood. W in term u te said the trailor, owned by the In terstate Paving Company, was transporting a grader when its air brakes caught fire near the entrance of the Bull Hun watershed The driver unloaded the grader and unhooked the truck from the tra ile r b efo re fla m e s to ta lly engulfed it The trailor was a total loss On June 14 medics from the department responded to an accident on Marmot Road, two miles from Sleepy Hollow just east of Cook's Ranch. On June 12 at 9 p m f ir e f ig h t e r s fro m the department responded to a chimney fire at Cook's Motel on Highway 26 near Brightwood W in te r m u t sa id an estimated 1400 in damages was caused to a mobile home when the roof caught fire At 5 a m . on June 10 firefighters responded to a rep o rt of smoke near Snowbunny Lodge, just east of Government Camp Upon a r r iv a l th ey discovered a U S Forest Service slash bum Later that same morning a crew responded to the report of a leaking propane tank at a residence on ped. T w o m ile s w est of G o v ern m en t C am p on Highway 26 at 5:30 p m a travel trailer being towed by a pickup was struck The driver of the car was Welches Road. Wintermut said the tank had just recently been fill ed and the hot sun caused the gas to expand The tank was moved into a cooler location and the leak stop Air operations to be studied A irm a n Randy W. Kubitz, son of Wayne H. Kubitz of Gresham and Barbara J Melton of San dy, has been assigned to Keesler Air Force Base, M is s , having completed Air Force basic training The airm an will now receive specialized instruc tion in the air operations field He is a 1961 graduate of Sandy Union High School.
